Significant New England Weather Event 2/12-2/13/08

Posted by wxgeek on February 12, 2008

3 areas of low pressure are set to hit New England this afternoon through tomorrow. The first system will bring plenty of snow and it will hit hard but does not have as much moisture as the second system.

The second system arrives tomorrow morning and will really be the redevelopment of the first low at the coast and move northeast. This storm will have a lot of moisture and plenty of warm air overrunning the cold air that is already in place. Look for plenty of sleet, especially northern and easter new england. It will also produce quite a bit of rainfall 1-2 inches likely along the coast. Flooding may be an issue with all this snow already in place. And possible power outages as well with any ice accumulation. Watch out for ice jams in the rivers too. It’s going to be a messy evening and morning commute.

The third system will have minimal impact to inland locations as an area of low pressure develops off the coast of NJ and tracks south of cape cod. Coastal areas could see a mix of sleet/rain or snow depending on the track.
